Pool table lights should be 30" to 33" from the bottom edge of the lampshade to the play surface. Billiard lighting should be set so that the light spreads over the entire pool table without blinding the eyes of players. Pool table lights may provide a different spread based on the lamps shades, dimensions and bulbs used in the fixture. Most players tend to prefer incandescent bulb lighting as opposed to fluorescent lighting and most pool table light fixtures are incandescent types.
