When replacing rail rubber cushions, it is important to get the right profile cushion for your pool table. Tables were designed to use one of four main types of rail cushion profiles. K66 profile is the most common and is used on most home and commercial 3 piece slate tables. K55 profile rail cushions are used on most coin operated tables and carom tables. U23 rail cushions are used on some home and commercial tables and Centennial or Century rail cushions are used on lower cost Brunswick and other lower cost home recreation pool tables.
Making sure you have the correct rail rubber cushion profile ensures that the cushion height or the rail strike point is in the proper position in relation to the ball. The rail height or stike point should be 63 1/2% of the ball diameter. (ex. standard pool ball is 2 1/4" in diameter, rail height should be .635 x 2.25 or 1.43" in height.)
By measuring the back side of the cushion, where it glues onto the rail which is dimensional height and measuring the top side of the rail cushion, which is top angle width and comparing these measurements with those dimensions listed below you can be sure to get the correct profile rubber cushion for your table. The tops and backs of the cushion usually have a cloth backing which helps to hold the profile shape.
